Welcome From Our President Dear Supporters of NCBAA-Northeast Region: On behalf of the Board of Directors, let me take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support of the mission of the National Council for Black American Affairs-Northeast Region, including professional development activities conducted under NCBAA-Northeast Region sponsorship. The Board seeks to broaden the scope of programming at our annual spring conference where it will address some of the critical issues impacting the teaching, learning, and counseling of students enrolled in our community colleges. I am pleased to announce that our 2010 spring conference will be held March 18-19, 2010 at Essex County College in Newark, NJ. We look forward to returning to Essex where the NCBAA-NE Region’s conference was held in 2004. The conference theme, Culture of Evidence: Best Practices in Institutional Effectiveness & Organizational Vitality, aims to address some of the challenges higher education is facing with declining resources and increasing accountability from government and the general public. The comments and ratings received from those of you who attended the 2009 conference were very instructive in guiding the planning of the workshops, and I look forward to seeing you at our upcoming conference. Scheduled workshops will address such topics as future directions in community colleges, stewardship during a financial crisis, anchors for leadership development, and institutional effectiveness as a strategy in meeting challenges of increased accountability.
